7 Wealthy Mentalities of Successful People

Article source: 7 Wealthy Mentalities of Successful People

There are no substitutes if you want to accomplish your lofty goals.
Everyone wants to be successful. Most want to be wealthy. So why don’t we ever end up getting there? Although most of us face detours to our big dreams, it’s typically not external factors keeping us from achieving our dreams. It’s internal barriers that stop us.
If you want to build wealth and be successful, you first need to have the right mentalities.

1. Goals are golden.

It’s no secret there’s a positive correlation between setting goals and overall productivity—professionals who have a measurable goal to work for are far more productive than those who are just “winging it.” But being goal-oriented and treating goals as “golden” is about more than just setting them in the first place. You have to treat them as a major priority, making heavy sacrifices to achieve them and breaking them down into smaller chunks when necessary. Creating your goals is just the first step of the process—you also need to have the follow-through to make them count.

2. The future is more important than the present.

This concept, from a subjective standpoint, is debatable. You could easily argue that living “in the moment” is more important than worrying about the future, but people who are future-oriented, that is to say, people who make decisions based on future payoffs, are far more likely to be successful. Future-oriented people aren’t afraid to make short-term sacrifices if it means a long-term gain, and they aren’t tempted to engage in momentary pleasures that would rob them of some future payoff. Their future selves are the main priority.

3. Failure isn’t a bad thing.

The fear of failure permeates our society and it leads millions to live their lives in complacency. For example, you’re working in a job you hate with a pay and advancement ceiling. You have the option to quit and start your own business, but you’re so afraid of failing that you never give it a real shot. Failure is always a possibility and as a society we need to stop decrying it. Successful people see failure as a necessary step of the process and a valuable learning opportunity. Moreover, few plans are executed smoothly—how you handle them when they go wrong is more important than when they go right.

4. Opportunities exist everywhere.

Opportunities arise when you least expect them. They may take the form of hidden strengths in an idea you were about to toss, or a potential partnership with a stranger you met in a coffee shop. When you adopt the mindset that opportunities truly exist everywhere, in every moment of every day, you’ll be on the lookout for them. By that virtue alone, you’ll discover more opportunities for yourself, and you’ll end up earning far more value in your life.

5. Calculated risks are important.

Risks are scary, but without them, there’s substantially less room to grow. Studies suggest that the wealthiest, most successful professionals of our time are ones who weren’t afraid to take a calculated risk—they went against the grain, gambled on an idea they thought was worth the investment and weren’t afraid to stake possible sacrifices. If you aren’t taking any risks, you aren’t making the move toward possible rewards, and, of course, without the rewards, you’ll never get anywhere.

6. Consistency is good, until it becomes prohibitive.

This is a complicated mental state to try and achieve, but it’s an important one. For the most part, consistency is incredibly important. For example, if one of your goals is to accrue wealth through investments, you have to invest a certain amount of money every month or you’ll lose momentum. However, there’s a point at which consistency does more harm than good—when it starts to lead you down the wrong path, such as when you’ve developed a bad habit or an unproductive routine. It’s hard to spot when these “bad” kinds of consistency crop up, but you’ll need to closely watch for them.

7. Nothing is ever perfect.

Accepting the reality that nothing is perfect helps you in countless areas. You won’t be as worried about taking risks. You won’t be as hesitant about starting a new project. You won’t be as deterred when something goes wrong, or when you overlooked a major flaw. You won’t find yourself perpetually waiting for the “perfect” time to launch a product, and you won’t abandon your goals just because you didn’t achieve them in the way you first expected.
It’s not easy to achieve these mentalities. Don’t expect to adopt them instantaneously. You’ll most likely have a hard time accepting some of them, especially if they conflict with your inherent and learned views of the world. But if you can slowly integrate them into your ongoing mental state and accept their maxims as truth, you’ll start making better decisions and forming habits that will one day lead you to the success you’ve always dreamed of. Remain patient and never stop moving forward.

The Top 5 Habits of Happy People

A Quick Preamble:
There are reasons, good reasons, why certain people have reached the state of constant happiness - it's all about things like wonder, self satisfaction, never forgetting ones roots and the inspiration gained from others...
... others who are or have been in worse positions than yourself - but are happy, as well as those fortunates who have gotten themselves into the happy position that you would like to be in.
Cutting To The Chase:
Habit No.1... Be Inspired By Others
  • It never ceases to amaze and is totally inspiring when you take time to notice those that you would consider worse off than yourself i.e. those that are blind or have limbs missing or are born with or have been suddenly stricken with debilitating diseases or afflictions - BUT - they attain happiness... their inner strength and acceptance of their circumstances is truly astounding... it begs the question; "exactly WHY am I unhappy..?".
  • What about those who have followed the tenets and types of advice that are cited and discussed within this site... they have attained happiness via positive thinking, hard endeavour, full commitment to their desires and absolute persistence in taking the necessary steps along their road to success... that warrants full respect and is simply inspirational... why not just emulate their steps to success..!?!
Habit No.2... Share Your Knowledge And Your Time
  • There really is nothing like the act of giving to others... most especially your time and knowledge... Winston Churchill said: "We Make a Living By What We Get, But We Make a Life By What We Give"
  • The man knew what he was talking about and many other very successful people have quoted along the same lines with the self-same theme... and have gone ahead to live full and happy lives.
  • It's one of the main rules of the universe and has been proved time and time again... to receive, you must first give..!
Habit No.3... Always Be Grateful For Everything You Have
  • Happy people are constantly grateful for all the material things they have, even if it took hard work and effort to obtain them... they do not take it or them for granted.
  • Subsequently, the people in your life... if you have wonderful relationships with great friends and loved ones, be grateful... do not take them for granted.
  • There are plenty people in this world who, for whatever reason, are not so fortunate, so you have serious reason to be forever thankful for your bounty..!
Habit No.4... Live For This Moment
  • This moment, here and now is what counts... focus and enjoy what you need to get done today so that you successfully move forward to tomorrow.
  • The past is done-and-dusted... there is no point continuously thinking about your past mistakes or even your past conquests - every day is different and will need to be actioned so that you get to the end of the road you have chosen for your FUTURE success.
  • On that note - do not dwell too much on the future either... what you do now, at this moment, is what will determine your future needs and actions.
Habit No.5... Know The Only Things That You Can Control Are Your Thoughts
  • Although you can guide by providing help and advice, you cannot control
  • l what others think or do - don't let that have negative influence on your desires.
  • Your thoughts are "things" - they WILL become reality if you keep thinking them... that's your negative as well as your positive thoughts, so it's obvious what type of thoughts you should spend the most (all) of your time on - right..?
  • Happy people begin with a dream, a thought... and then make it a solid happenstance..!
A Final Anecdote:
Happiness is a state of mind, not just a simple feeling... if your mind is persistently positive, if your mind is grateful and if your mind does not dwell on past injustices or mistakes and if you make sure your mind doesn't stress too much about the future that you cannot possibly control, then happiness is yours for the taking... take it..!
Here's a simple but very adroit quote - from Abraham Lincoln - for you to remember...
"Folks are usually about as happy as they make their minds up to be."
We're all about "Natural Health & Wellness for the mind, the body and the soul...

5 Steps To Transforming Your Mind

For most of us, change is excruciatingly hard. We're creatures of habit. We like to find a system or method of doing things and sticking to it until becomes second nature. And we don't have to think about it. And once we find a system, we don't want to change under any circumstances.
Even if the way we're doing things are inefficient, slow or costly!
Even if there is a more efficient, faster and less expensive way of doing something, we many times refuse to change and cling to the familiar! Many of us won't change unless forced to.
The New Economic Reality
Most of us are familiar with the economic situation in the last eight to 10 years. We know the good old days of near full employment are over. Many of the jobs we thought we could depend on are gone forever. Even in the information technology sector where I work, jobs are going over sees to the lowest bidder. When employees leave or retire, most of the jobs are not filled. "We're doing more with less" as the cliche goes.
We live in a world were depending on one income can be a financial disaster. However, many of us still think our jobs will be around forever and aren't prepared for the future, which is right now. In today's economic climate, you have to be willing to learn new skills, adapt to new ways of doing things and find other ways of making money.
Many of us seek part-time employment in addition to our full-time jos. Not a bad idea but sometimes part-time jobs can lead to more stress, more hours away from home and more time away from family. The whole point of working a part-time job is to supplement your current income.
After a while, the return on investment of your time away from family and home and the relatively little increase income doesn't seem worth it. So many of us decided to start home businesses.
But to be successful at an home business, you must change or transform your way of thinking.
Transforming Your Mind
For years, I tried to run my home business like a hobby. I would sell or market my business when ever the urge hit me. And I've tried many home business but I wasn't successful because I didn't run my at home business like a business.
I could not escape the "working mentality." Like most of us, I was raised to go to school, get an education and get a good job. So I expected to put in some time and magically some money would appear. When the money didn't appear after a few weeks or a month, I would say the business didn't work.
Couldn't seem to wrap my head around the fact that you have to put in time, money and effort into your business consistently. Sometimes it takes months before you start making money because in many cases it takes that long to change your mindset.
What it Takes To Change Your Mindset
Change is not easy. If it were, most people would do it pretty easily. Change must intentional. You must make a conscious effort to change the way you do things before it becomes second nature. You might revert back to your old ways sometimes but as long make the effort to change, you will.
As I sat down and thought about how I've had to change my mindset over the past year, I thought of seven steps that has enabled to slowly change from an employee mindset to a business owner mindset. Here are the steps below:
  • Change your associations - As the whole saying goes, birds of the same feather flock together. If you want to be a business person, you might want to hang around business people. If you want to stop a negative behavior, you have to disassociate yourself from those people. Not always easy because some of those bad associations may be friends and family.

  • Change what you listen to - I get on my kids all the time about wrap music. I tell them "garbage in, garbage out." If you listen to negative people, music, words, etc. Those words will become part of you. Conversely, if you listen to positive words, inspirational music and listen to positive people, you will see how your mind changes over time.

  • Change what you view - I've pretty much stop listening to the news. It's all negative. Everything happening in the world isn't negative but that's what sells and captures people's attention. You have a choice over what you see. Look at educational DVDs, television shows and books. Your view of the world will be positive and you will see the world from a positive point of view.

  • Change the places you go - I remember wanting to stop drinking and cursing as much. Well, I had to stop going to night clubs and bars. No matter how strong willed you are, if you hang around places where people smoke and drink, chances are, you're going to smoke and drink. If you want to change your behavior, you have to stay away from those places and/or hang around more positive places such as church, supportive family and friends, or get involved in community events.

  • Change what you think about - This may seem a bit vague but what I mean by changing what you think about is focus on things outside of yourself. Focus on helping or serve others. Take your mind off the negative and try to see the positive in situations. Think on things that will positively impact someone. Focus on ideas that has helped you and can help others in a positive way.
Understand that changing or transforming your mind is a PROCESS. Chances are, it's not going to happen overnight. Change is hard but necessary if you're going to achieve the goals you set out for yourself.
